Happy New Years!
So its a new year soon. I'm gonna make a resolution by putting deadlines and probably taking other peoples suggestions on things. but since its a new year people have probably lost somethings or gained others. A new year as I look at it is a chance to begin all over.

Crank
The book Crank is written in a poetic format which at first is confusing to read, but along the way you learn a trick or two on how to read it. Ellen Hopkins book describes Kristina's introduction into her down fall with the "Monster" called Crank. It all started with a court mandated visit so that she visits her father. During this visit she not only meets Adam (Buddy) who introduced her to crank, but she meets her alter ego Bree. When she returns to Reno only after a three week visit with her dad. She struggles on trying to find a supplier for her addiction. She meets two promising boys in the remainder of her vacation. During this time her grades drop and she lets Bree take Kristina's natural place in life. Along the way she becomes really close with a cheerleader named Robyn, who teaches Bree/Kristina a new way of consuming the Crank. She then meets up with one of her dealers for a pick-up. In the end of the meeting she ends up getting raped and pregnant as a final result. This basically slows her addiction for the Monster.
A song that wound go perfectly with this book would be "A-Team" by Ed Sheeran. The girl in the video is struggling to live but also to get her drugs. If you listen to the lyrics closely you can almost picture Kristina's downward spiral into the A-class drug of crystal meth. Her being stuck in her day dream means that she never stopped getting high. She wanted to hold on to that peace she thought she had when really it was eating at her. Her struggle to pay anything is because she spending the money buying the drug. The line 'we're just under the upper hand' basically means with this book basically that no matter how many times she would say no she got sucked back into it and do anything for a gram or two. Yes a lot of people would not read the book because of the language or the drug use, but people read the book because of how Ellen Hopkins weaves her words together to create a world that isn't all mythical.
